Miguel is a 11-year-old who loves Legos, video games, and outer space. Laurie’s assessments indicated he was on grade level in reading and near grade level in math. However, he struggled with learning new academic concepts and was falling behind in school. Laurie's personalized instruction targeted his learning strengths and passions while helping him to develop strategies to learn new concepts successfully. Laurie mentored his mother, who is Miguel's champion, on how to practice these strategies with him. To address his identified extreme school/social avoidance, Miguel is enrolled in our FREE online social services and mentoring program with Fordham University graduate interns (see article below). More doors opened when Miguel and his siblings received full scholarships to attend a private school that specializes in science and technology (Miguel's interests). Laurie continues to reinforce Miguel's personalized learning strategies with reading, writing, math, and science lessons that he enjoys.
Laurie has 30+ years as a professional educator. Her expertise includes extensive K-12 special education experience as a teacher, diagnostician, administrator, and nonprofit central office leadership. She often worked privately with students needing additional academic assistance and mentoring parents/guardians to assist their children’s learning. She has developed programs, trained teachers, and evaluated the effectiveness of strategies that improve underrepresented students' success, access, and college readiness. She cares deeply about helping all students succeed in school and life. She loves to garden and do fun activities with her grandchildren.

The goal is to raise funds for our need-based Literacy Opportunity Scholarship. We know that not all students in the Houston area have the same opportunities--we believe it is up to us to help underserved populations receive needed learning services to empower their future. To remove financial barriers, we offer our need-based Literacy Opportunity Scholarship.
Dynamic Learners will receive 35-40% for our Literacy Opportunity Scholarship on all Charleston Wrap products sold.
