Dear GivingTuesday Community,

In these times of physical distancing and separation, it is easy to feel heavyhearted walking the empty streets of our cities. As we yearn for assurance and human connection, the importance of community and generosity are more important than ever.

You, on the frontlines in your communities, are modeling the leadership that the rest of the world is looking to with your generosity and determination.

We’re going to do our part too. After much reflection and discussion we want to do what GivingTuesday does best: rally the world to drive a massive, collective spike of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.

Today we announce #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The global day of action will rally people around the world to tap into the power of human connection and strengthen communities at the grassroots level. Together, we will take action on behalf of first responders, as well as the world’s other - often forgotten - frontline workers:  the nonprofits and community organizations that feed, house, educate, and nurture neighbors impacted by the global pandemic.

Our hope is that this mobilization will demonstrate the power of generosity to heal a frightened world.
