Lillian & Joan

Our Story

Dr. Joan Ickes and Dr. Lillian McEnery
founded Dynamic Learners, Inc.

Steve, a friend of Joan’s, asked us to evaluate the results of his son Tony’s learning assessments, which were administered by a private learning agency.  Tony was in middle school and struggling in some of his courses.  Steve wanted us to confirm that the private learning agency was providing Tony with the learning assistance he needed to succeed in school.  Steve also expressed concern about the private agency’s expensive fees.

Through our professional in-depth evaluation of the private agencies’ assessments, we were alarmed to learn the agency used problematic assessment tools.  Tony’s results were questionable.  When Steve learned this, he asked Joan to assess Tony’s learning strengths, determine areas of development needed for success in school and life, then plan personalized interventions for him.

We conducted extensive research of several private learning agencies. Additionally, we discovered that these programs were not affordable for most families and their children, who needed accurate learning assessments and interventions.  It was obvious to us that there was a profound need for an after school private program that provided affordable, high-quality, proven, and personalized
reading and math learning diagnostic and intervention services to
empower learners to succeed in school and life.

We made it our mission to develop and launch Dynamic
Learners, Inc. aimed at closing the opportunity learning gap by
raising funds for reading and math literacy scholarships so that all
learners could receive the after school learning services they need.

More Success Stories

Lydia was a bright, curious, and funny 4th grader.  She excelled in math, but struggled in reading, writing, and spelling.  Our in-depth diagnostic assessment and analysis of Lydia’s results indicated: phonological dyslexia.  Within a few months, Lydia’s spelling and reading scores improved significantly.  Her writing is more successful.  At school, Lydia is now a member of the academic and leadership club.  Lydia invites her learning specialist to attend her school activities.

Pedro was a quiet, hard-working 1st grader in a bilingual program.  He was below grade level in all subjects; however,  math was his best subject.  Our in-depth diagnostic assessment and analysis of Pedro’s results indicated challenges in word attack and comprehension in English and Spanish.  Within months, Pedro was reading on grade level in both languages.  He developed a strong rapport with his bilingual learning specialist.

Kay was a high school student struggling in algebra.  Our in-depth assessment and analysis of Kay’s results indicated challenges in fundamental mathematical concepts and equation solving strategies.  Kay enjoyed working with her learning specialist and she grew in confidence as her scores in algebra improved.  Improving in math meant Kay would achieve her career goal of working in the medical field.
